The Georgia Bulldogs coached by Harry Mehre faced the powerhouse Yale Bulldogs in the inaugural game at Sanford Stadium, October 12, 1929. Vernon "Catfish" Smith scored all 15 points for Georgia in the shutout victory. From a historical perspective, this game was played fifteen days prior to the great stock market crash now known as "Black Tuesday."
